Room 204's Hot Coco Party
We've been on our best behavior now that Christmas is near. We know that Santa and his Elfie's all across the city have been checking in on us. The children in room 204 filled their marble jar and Miss Malaney and Miss Garcia surprised them with a Hot Coco Party! The students drank hot coco and decorated snowflake ornaments. Here are some pictures of all the fun we had!
Connor made a toast and drank at the same time!
Cheers!
Tommy couldn't get enough hot coco!
Dress Rehearsal
Today was our official dress rehearsal for the Christmas pageant! The 2nd Grade looked and sounded lovely. Our 2nd grade boys even got a very nice compliment from Mrs. Shiba. She said they "Stole the show!" We can't wait to show off all our hard work tomorrow at 2pm in the Parish Hall. See you then!

An Advent Angel Visit
Each year the teachers at ICSJ celebrate the season of Advent by participating in Advent Angels. Nurse Kari was Ms. Donahue's Advent Angel and came to read to our class! She knew how much we enjoyed Peanuts, so she read A Charlie Brown Christmas. Thanks so much, Nurse Kari!

Museum of Science and Industry
On Wednesday, we took our field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. Students were able to find their countries' trees and learn some new facts for their projects. We also had time to explore the museum and see an Omnimax movie on ocean reefs. The kids had a blast!

Room 201 Door Decorating Contest
We were very proud of our students for the idea they came up with for the school's first door decorating contest. Our class wanted to focus on the liturgical season of Advent and decided to make stars representing the light that Jesus brings in our lives and to show the way for the Three Wise Men and shepherds. Although we didn't win, we are proud of our door and what it represents.
States of Matter
In Science, we have been working on our states of matter iPad presentations. Students are writing, drawing, and recording together--and having a lot of fun. We are excited to watch them!
St. Nicholas
Just like many of you had St. Nicholas visit your house last night, we had a special visit from St. Nicholas at school today! He came while we were going over our morning journal. He talked about his generosity and asked us what we were doing during this season of Advent to be generous like he is. Before he left he made sure to give us candy canes to represent his hook shaped staff, and gold coins to represent the wealth he shared with the poor.

Door Decoration Contest
As your child may have told you ICSJ is holding its first Christmas Door Decoration Contest. Father Larry will judge the contest on Friday for originality, student involvement, holiday cheer, and budget under $5. Room 204 has been working hard over the past two days to complete our design. We voted as a class and decided on a Christmas tree made out of our hands. Here is what our door looks like so far. The class is working to finish a Nativity Scene that will go beneath the tree. We will post another completed picture on Friday. Wish us luck!!

Advent
This week is the first week of Advent, and although our Religion classes have been focused mostly on preparing for Reconciliation on Saturday we are finding some time to talk and learn about Advent. The students created Advent promise chains before Thanksgiving that list four promises/goals they will work on during the four weeks of Advent to prepare for the coming of Jesus.
On Monday we stapled this week's chain into our planners. Help remind your child of their Advent promise each night before or after they complete their homework.
